May Niiya

May Niiya is a second-year MA student in American Studies at Columbia University. She is interested in the history of U.S. empire and Asian settler colonialism in her home state of Hawaiʻi. In addition to serving as the Graduate Coordinator for the “Refugee Cities: Urban Dimensions of Forced Displacement” Working Group, sponsored by the Columbia Center for the Study of Social Difference, she is also the Rapporteur for the Columbia University Seminar in American Studies.
